Follow the thread of time
From the date of a passage to the history of an era, see what came before, overlapped and continued.
A passage can become a marker
Select a passage and give it a date, duration or uncertain range. The marker is attached to the text block, so you can find it again from the timeline without creating a separate note for every event.
Choose what you are looking at
The timeline gathers markers from the context you have opened and, if you choose, from its subnotes. A person’s life can sit within a wider period. A note reused in several contexts remains one note.
Compare on a shared axis
The Timeline view places markers in time. The shared axis groups them by note to bring different stories alongside one another. Horizontal zoom moves between the period and its details; selecting a marker returns to its original passage.
Example
A person and their era
Place the appeal of 18 June 1940 and the return to Paris in August 1944 within your reading of the Second World War. The timeline locates the markers; your notes keep the explanation.
Keep control of dates
A marker’s dates are explicit values you enter. Editing that date updates its representations. Changing a date written freely in a paragraph does not automatically update the associated marker.
The current views are the first version of this integration with notes. Not all advanced interactions and scales from the older Frises tool are included yet.
